The Details Are in the Deco – The Georgian Hotel Project

Helping update classic landmarks in our own backyard really blows our wig and being part of the refurbishment of The Georgian Hotel in Santa Monica was aces in our book.

Coined “First Lady of Santa Monica,” The Georgian originally opened in 1933 and soon became one of the hottest to-be-seen spots in town. Clutching glasses of giggle juice, power celebs like Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe mingled with nogoodniks like Bugsy Siegel and Al Capone just a stone’s throw from the beach.

Located on Ocean Avenue a few blocks from the Santa Monica Pier, The Georgian’s Art Deco accents, iconic black and white-striped awning, and bright turquoise exterior is like a beautiful peacock basking in the sun.

The only problem – over the years and through frequent owner turn-over, the hotel had lost some of its sparkle. That is, until BLVD Hospitality owner Jon Blanchard grabbed the reins. With help from design agency, Fettle, and purchasing firm, Summa International, (and a little help from us, too) The Georgian is shining like the sweet patootie it was in its heyday.

All’s Copacetic Now

Today, the eight-story tall hotel houses 84 guest rooms (28 suites), two public restaurants, dining terraces, an art gallery, a library, and a lobby bar.

For our part, we provided furniture for the lobby, bar, guestrooms, and a few other public spaces. Our goal was to help preserve The Georgian’s iconic and historic atmosphere while sprinkling in modern flairs in a cost-effective way that doesn’t skimp on quality. We think we nailed it.

We’re not the only ones who are impressed. Over the past few months, The Georgian’s gotten some great press. Check out these write-ups in Vogue and Premier Hospitality International

We’re not just bumping gums when we say we’re super proud of our work on this project. We’re honored to have the opportunity to partner with such a creative and talented team of designers, buyers, and owners who all shared the same vision – to restore The Georgian Hotel to its bold, beautiful, boisterous self.  Slip me five, friends. Mission accomplished.
